"Three friends, two of us from Denver and one from San Francisco just had dinner out in San Francisco and finished with dessert at Bombay Ice Cream in SF. It was the perfect opportunity to tell my friends about your project which I learned about from my good friend Manisha at Indian Food Rocks. Of course we talked about how fortunate we are and it was my chance to ask them for help also. We are happy to send this donation and would like to know what goes into the food kits that you distribute. With your story being told on food blogs around the world, I am sure your goal will be met."  - Lee Ruppeck -

FAHC Chittur Chapter PDF Print E-mail

Though little time has passed since the last news about FAHC activities, we have some exciting news to share with all of you.  It is our pleasure to provide you with an update on the recent developments at feedahungrychild.org.

feedahungrychild.org is now a registered charitable trust entity in India; registration number is 339/2007.  Thanks to KK for his time and efforts in getting this accomplished.

FAHC is not just about food!

First batch children of FAHC Chittur ChapterFAHC began its pilot operation on April 17, 2007, at Palakkad district of Kerala in India.  The event was a full-day affair involving all the FAHC-supported children, their caretakers, and a few well-wishers from the neighborhood.  We gathered at the chairperson’s house where we organized a lunch with children followed by the distribution of the first monthly feeding kits and gifts.  The program was implemented correctly for well-identified 10 families to support a total of 14 children in the pilot feeding project.  Our visits to their houses were so inspiring; at times we literally had tears in our eyes seeing their tragic living conditions.  These kids have very meager support systems and have no fathers.  Some of them do not have both parents.  These children face so many hurdles that it becomes even more important to lend them a helping hand early in life.  Now they have a hope.  FAHC is aiming to make a tangible difference in the lives of these chosen children.  That can make all the difference.  We are exploring the possibilities of alternative livelihood options for these families.

FAHC provides support to the children and their families by giving them better food via feeding kits, education and healthcare support, and other welfare.

Educationally, FAHC takes care of the costs of their textbooks, notebooks, school bag, umbrella, uniforms, school tuition fees, etc.  We also conduct study classes, camps, and games during vacation holidays for the children.

For medical care, we are on a look out for a possible medical insurance option.  For the time being, FAHC takes care of the cost of their medical bills on an as needed basis.

Crisis as Opportunity!

Second batch children of FAHC Chittur ChapterAIDS kills adults in the prime of their working and parenting lives, decimates the work force, fractures and impoverishes families, orphans millions... (by Callisto Madavo).

AIDS is increasingly becoming a problem for all demographic groups in India and the highest concentration of it is in the villages.  As the epidemic increases its deadly reach, greater efforts must be taken by all charitable institutions both internationally and within India.  Keeping this in mind, FAHC has joined the fight against AIDS-related issues by banding together many AIDS-affected children.  Two of these children have chronic respiratory illness and need regular supply of medications.  These kids have already lost their fathers due to AIDS.  Their mothers are affected with the deadly disease and are chronically ill.  Perhaps it is a drop in the bucket of giving support to the AIDS-affected children in our communities, but it is certainly a beginning.

As we look ahead, 2008 promises to be a year of growth and fulfillment for feedahungrychild.org in supporting good many needy children.  As we plan to grow 10-fold over the next few years, we need your help now more than ever.  Please stay tuned and keep extending your kind support!  Every bit of your help is greatly appreciated.
